Full Description

Skinner's Lane (CHER 11314) extended from the end of Lower Bridge St. to the former Shipgate in the medieval period, and to the south-west corner of the city wall later. Along this route, in between the old path of the City Wall and the river, a group of houses became established, labelled as 'Skinner's Houses' on Lavaux's plan (1745) (5) but called the Mustard Houses previously (1).

A Robert Mustard lived in this area and is reported to have given his name to the property, but later, at an unknown date, the city glovers and skinner's took the lease (1). The entire street and its buildings were demolished before Harrison's 1780's redevelopment of the castle.
