Summary

Archaeological investigations comprising a single test pit were carried out in 2010 to the rear of No 74 Lower Bridge Street, during the course of which a series of 18th century deposits were encountered in association with the southern boundary wall. The evidence comprised a substantial deposit of post medieval dumped material used to raise the ground level and associated with the repair to the boundary wall in the 18th century, however the wall itself appears to be earlier, possibly late medieval or early post medieval in origin. A sandstone surface was also encountered, but not excavated at the base of dumped material.
