Summary

Domesday settlement and medieval manor with church. Hampton is mentioned in Domesday among the possessions of the barons of Malpas. One moiety was retained by the Saxon proprietor, Edwin, as sub- tenant. It had land for 4 ploughs. The manor later passed to the Belwards and Malpas families. Hugh de Malpas had licence for divine service in the oratory within his mansion at Hampton 1364-5.

Full Description

Hampton is mentioned in Domesday among the possessions of the barons of Malpas. One moiety was retained by the Saxon proprietor, Edwin, as sub- tenant. Had land for 4 ploughs. The manor later passed to the Belwards and Malpas families. Hugh de Malpas had licence for divine service in the oratory within his mansion at Hampton 1364-5 (1). Has been suggested as a deserted medieval village, but no evidence for this theory (2).
