Full Description
Hampton is mentioned in Domesday among the possessions of the barons of Malpas. One moiety was retained by the Saxon proprietor, Edwin, as sub- tenant. Had land for 4 ploughs. The manor later passed to the Belwards and Malpas families. Hugh de Malpas had licence for divine service in the oratory within his mansion at Hampton 1364-5 (1). Has been suggested as a deserted medieval village, but no evidence for this theory (2).
