Full Description
Archaeological investigations at Tower Wharf in 2007 and 2008 recorded evidence of a buried soil horizon across much of the site. The layer contained pottery ranging in date from the late Roman to medieval period.
The evidence comprised a leached, buried soil horizon of pale brown silty clay recorded across Areas A & B. It was found to seal the earlier Roman features including the second century timber building and the later boundary ditches. While some Roman material was recovered from the fill, two fragments of medieval Ewloe ware was also recovered nearby.
