Archaeological investigations at Tower Wharf in 2007-2008 recorded evidence of two parallel boundary ditches on an east-west alignment to the south of the Roman road. They were dated to the second to third century AD.

The evidence comprised an east-west cut feature [2111] approximately 1.07m wide and 0.38m deep that partially cut an earlier timber building (CHER 8591). The feature extended over a length of 20m and was interpreted as a boundary feature running broadly parallel with, but to the south of the Roman road (CHER 8629). A second ditch [2005] was subsequently discovered 3.8m to the south of the first feature on a parallel alignment. This ditch was traced for a distance of 13m and was 0.5m wide and 0.1m deep with a U shaped profile.
