Monument record 11393 - Historic Administrative Boundary for Chester Parish

Please read our .

Summary

The historic boundary for the liberty of Chester was first explicitly defined in 1354 although likely predated this. It was subsequently described again in 1540 and later in the 19th and 20th century allowing for a reasonable interpretation of the boundary. The Ordnance Survey First Edition map of 1880 records the line of city liberty as well as the boundary stones that would have historically marked the liberty on the ground. For the most part the liberty as defined in 1880 appears identical to that defined in the 14th century, the most significant extension being the inclusion of Spital Boughton in the city liberty.
