Full Description

A Methodist Chapel on Malpas Road (also referred to as Wet Lane) in Tilston. The church originally opened in 1909, closed in 2000 and in 2013 was in the process of being converted into a dwelling (1) (2).

"The building is of traditional construction with load bearing masonry walls of red brick externally. The wall and door openings are articulated by attractive stone head detailing and contrasting ornamental brick bonding which visually frames the sides of the those openings on the principal elevations of the building. The roof over the main structure is covered in natural slates supported by a pitched timber construction. The floors throughout are solid." (2)

The Chapel is 66m² in plan with the Sunday school measuring a further 37m² in plan (1).

The chapel replaced an earlier building on the site which had become too damp for occupation (see Building 7179) (1). This is further supported by OS Mapping. The chapel's existing structure is only present on third edition OS Mapping of 1911 (3). However first and second edition OS Mapping of 1875 (4) and 1898 (5) show that a Methodist Chapel was present on the site prior to 1909.

There are twenty panels on the exterior of the chapel which are believed to be associated with the Sunday school (1).
