Full Description
This is a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Malpas. The Chapel was built in 1875 and was destroyed by fire in 1891 (1). Dwellings are currently situated on the site (2).
The chapel is located on first, second and third edition Ordnance Survey Mapping of 1875, (3) 1898 (4) and 1911 (5) respectively. Examination of 1940's (6) and 1970's (7) aerial photography suggests that following the original chapel being destroyed by fire, the chapel was rebuilt (8).
Between the 1970's (6) and the 1990's (9) it appears that the chapel was demolished, with dwellings subsequently being contracted (10).
Former stables which were associated with the chapel have been converted into garages for the dwellings, with its architectural features illustrating the buildings previous religious function (1).
