Summary

Archaeological investigations in the form of a watching brief of pits in front of the Forum Shopping Centre identified a layer containing fragments of Roman material. The layer was located within the area of the large courtyard building at the centre of the fortress.

Geotechnical test pits excavated in front of the Forum Shopping Centre identified a layer in three nearby pits within the area of the large courtyard building at the centre of the fortress.

Archaeological investigations in the form of a watching brief of several window samples in front of the Forum Shopping Centre identified a layer containing fragments of Roman material. The evidence from window sample 14 identified a thick layer containing ceramic building material, mortar and sandstone fragments. Similar material was recorded in window sample 15b and 16 to the south.
