Full Description
Geotechnical test pit excavated to a depth of 1.95m in the approximate location of the north external wall of the principia.

Archaeological investigations in the form of a watching brief of several small geotechnical pits in front of The Forum Shopping Centre (trench 32) recorded a sandstone masonry surface directly beneath the footings of the present structure at a depth of 1.95m below the present ground level. The masonry was bonded with a pink-brown mortar of possible Roman date.
