Summary

Archaeological investigations at Abbey Green between 1975 and 1978 recorded evidence of a north south aligned road between two centurion's houses. The evidence comprised a road surface bordered by roadside gutters. The road appeared to lead onto the intervallum road to the north of the buildings.

Archaeological investigations at Abbey Green between 1975 and 1978 recorded evidence of a north south aligned road between two centurion's houses.

The evidence comprised a road surface of sandstone metalling on a thin bed of sandstone brash between the central and the eastern buildings approximately 4m in width and bordered on both sides by shallow roadside gutters [Contexts P162 & P164].
