Salvage recording of several stanchion holes cut to the rear of No 73 Foregate Street in advance of redevelopment of the site in 1965 identified the remains of a timber lined tanning pit. The pit may have cut an earlier one although there was no evidence of a lining in the second pit feature.
The limited nature of the construction work precluded any further investigation into this feature.
