Gaumont Picture palace opened in 1931 and continued to operate until December 1961 when it was converted into a bowling alley and later a bingo hall.
The Gaumont was one of the larger cinemas in Chester, housing 1997 seats in all. The front facade of the building was mock Tudor in keeping with the dominant style of the town with an entrance hall in the Italianate style. Much of the interior was subsequently destroyed, however, following the closure of the cinema.
