Full Description
54 and 56 Northgate St. are two town houses built either in the late seventeenth to early eighteenth century, but may have included earlier elements, and with upper storeys that were re-cased around 1900 (1). The buildings are of English garden wall bond brown brickwork, sandstone, with green slate roofs. The shop fronts of c 1900 have wood frames, leaded glazing above the transom with the City Arms of Durham, Salisbury, Newcastle, London, Chester, Carlisle and York (1).
