1 - 6 Gamul Place (south side), is a row of six court cottages built in 1872, of Flemish bond brown brick with grey slate roofs, are of two storeys and each cottage is of one bay (1). These were refurbished in the late twentieth century by Chester City Council, and might be the only surviving examples of court housing in Chester (1). Please see the linked listed building record for additional structural detail.
<2> Grosvenor Museum, Various, Photographic Archive from Various sites excavated by the Grosvenor Museum in Chester (Photographic Archive). SCH7251.
Cellar recorded underneath the south side of Gamul Place in 1974. Gamul Place itself was late 19th century terraced development to the rear of Lower Bridge Street.
The cellar is recorded in a photographic archive only, it appears to have been a substantial brick built structure partially infilled with modern rubbish. It probably predates the 20th century terraced housing and was associated with earlier structures.
