Monument record 11278 - Tobacco Manufactory, Canal Street

A tobacco manufactory is recorded on Canal Street to the north of the city on historic Ordnance Survey maps.

It consisted of a long narrow range parallel to the street, recorded in this location on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map in the late 19th century. This was later extended with the addition of a second larger range extending back from the street and perpendicular to the first range on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey from the start of the 20th century. Further extensions to this range were then made in the first half on the 20th century when for the first time the building is labelled as a tobacco mill. (1, 2, 3)
