Full Description
An archaeological evaluation carried out at 22a The Groves in 2012, consisting of the excavation of two test trenches (1). At a depth of 2.5m a sandstone-capped culvert was found, aligned east - west.
The precise date of the culvert could not be determined, however it was thought to possibly date to the eighteenth century as the excavators suggested that it seemed to be associated with a nearby eighteenth century structure seen on a contemporary plan of the city. No finds were reported (1).
A follow-up evaluation carried out in 2012 uncovered the culvert again, but did not add any information as to its dating (2).
