Full Description
Chester was chosen as the venue for the 1925 Royal Agricultural Society of England’s Annual Show, attracting a huge number of exhibitors and crowds. The resulting showground extended over a substantial area from Saltney to Lache Lane and comprised large cattle and pig markets, a horse ground with areas for heavy and light horses and a show ring, bandstands, judges grounds, massive allotments for horticultural shows, dog shows and grounds, and a substantial grounds for machinery displays. The massive undertaking required for the show included not just provision of space but also improvements to the infrastructure; Sandy Lane was widened to provide access and the railway company added new sidings for 600 further wagons and a loading dock adjacent to the showground (1)
