Summary

A national school was built on Hamilton Place in 1874 for boys and girls. It continued to operate until 1942. British National Schools were set up in the 19th century to provide elementary eduction to poor children following the teachings of the Church of England.

Full Description

St Peter's National School opened on Hamilton Place in 1874. It continued to operate until 1942 and was subsequently demolished in the mid 20th century as part of the Northgate redevelopment (5)

An air raid shelter was added here during World War II. (6)
