Full Description
Archaeological investigations at George Street School in 2002 identified several features of Roman origin.
The evidence consisted of a buried ground surface in trench 2 of the excavations [context 26] at a depth of approximately 1.1m below the present ground level with a shallow gully cut into it [context 20]. The fill of the gully contained Roman pottery of a 2nd to 3rd century date and was cut by a later gully of probable medieval date. (1)
