Summary

A National School for boys and girls was recorded on Boundary Lane, Saltney on Ordnance Survey First Edition maps in the late 19th century. The school was built in around 1853 and comprised a single long room, a smaller room to the northeast and a porch near the south-east corner. It was built of stone with a slate roof. The school was demolished in 1909 with parts of the building rebuilt as a chapel near Wrexham. National Schools were founded in the 19th century by the National Society for Promoting Religious Education. They provided education to young children following the teaching of the Church of England. Although they were aimed at the poor, a nominal fee for tuition was also expected.
