Full Description
Gallows Hill, on the Boughton Road, was formerly the place of public executions in Chester. Public executions were carried out here until 1801. (1)
In the 16th century, the martyr George Marsh was burnt at the stake at Gallows Hill while in 1679 the Catholic priest John Plessington was hanged for his beliefs. (2)
