Full Description

The 1842 tithe map for Larkton township depicts eight small fields and two cottages, one on northern side (the cottage on the hill) and one on the eastern side (Larkton Hill). The accompanying award records the eastern three fields and cottage as being occupied by William Dean. The other crofts and cottage are occupied by Frances White. All are described as inclosure or garden (those containing the cottage). All are owned by George Horatio Cholmondley (1).

The northern cottage, the cottage on the hill, is depicted as a ruin on the Ordnance Survey 25" to 1 mile map (2).

The fields have been amalgamated into one field by 1985. Larkton Hill cottage is still extant, by appears to be purely residential in function (3).

It's possible that, like CHER 7067, this farmstead predates the early nineteenth century Act of Enclosure for Larkton Township (4).
