Full Description

The 1839 tithe map for Bickerton township depicts a small farmstead comprising seven small fields and two buildings. The accompanying award records this farmstead as belonging to Sir Phillip de Malpas Grey Egerton and occupied by John Ackerley (1).

The farmstead is still extant on the 1911 Ordnance Survey 25" to 1 mile map (2), but by 1940 the remaining building has been demolished and the majority of the small fields amalgamated into one field (3).

The farmstead is depicted on the map which accompanies the 1854 Enclosure Award (4).

This farmstead was probably created by the encroachment of the township's common. Some of the field boundaries survive (5).
