Summary

Archaeological investigations at the south east angle tower in 1937 recorded a number of Roman finds from the medieval city wall. The finds comprised a sandstone ballista ball, a fragment of a samian ware bowl and part of a sandstone sculpture. The sculpture appears to be Roman in style, resembling an altar, however it was discovered together with the Saxon cross.

Archaeological investigations at the south east angle tower in 1937 recorded a number of Roman finds from the medieval city wall. (1)

The finds comprised a sandstone ballista ball, a fragment of a samian ware bowl and part of a sandstone sculpture. The sculpture appears to be Roman in style, resembling an altar, however it was discovered together with the Saxon cross.
