Monument record 11126 - Chester and Tarvin Turnpike Trust

The Chester and Tarvin Turnpike trust opened in 1743 following an Act of Parliament for the London Road east from the city centre through Tarvin to Nantwich (the present A51). The Trust continued to operate until 1883. The original trust covered the entire line between Chester and Staffordshire but in 1755 the Cheshire section came under a separate trust. The trust remained limited by a provision in the act banning any gathering of tolls between Nantwich and Chester (1)
