Full Description
An 18th century timber yard is recorded on historic maps lying just outside the Watergate. It is first recorded on de Levaux’s map of 1745 extending over much of the length of Crane Street (1). By the mid 19th century it is recorded adjacent to the City Walls until the 1870s when it disappears from the map evidence entirely (2)
It is located in the approximate position of the medieval port and may have replaced an earlier wharf or boat yard. (3)
