Full Description
Archaeological investigations to the north of the New Crane Street car park in 2011 identified a number of features of post medieval date.
The evidence consisted of a layer of dark blackish grey soil containing material of a 17th-18th century date sealing a number of earlier features including two sandstone walls [1053] on a northwest-southeast alignment across the trench possibly associated with 18th century buildings in the area.
The walls sat on a series of layers including silt deposits and make up layers, below which were two pits [1057; 1059] of possible 16th century date.
