Full Description
The Diocesan Training College was founded in 1839 as the first Church of England Diocesan College for training schoolteachers. The present building were largely built between 1841-42 by JC and G Buckler. It is of stone dressed brown brick with grey slate roofs in the Tudor revival style. It is three storeys high with a basement. The original entrance front to Parkgate Road is E-shaped, with lower wing, formerly the College's school, right. Much of the interior has been substantially altered and only a few rooms facing Parkgate Road retain original features. The stone-coped wall to the Parkgate forecourt to the Old Building is continued in coursed sandstone to the corner of Cheyney Road and south-west along Cheyney Road. (1)
