Full Description
Archaeological investigations at the site of the Leadworks prior to redevelopment of the site identified cultivation soils containing pottery of a 14th century date. Historic maps suggest this area remained open farmland until the 19th century when the canal and subsequent leadworks were constructed.
The evidence consisted of a plough soil [2161] containing sandstone fragments and some 14th century green glazed wares. (1)
