Full Description
Archaeological investigations as part of a major redevelopment of the Hunter Street/Princess Street area identified several phases of medieval and later activity.
The investigations recorded traces of a series of four cottages of a mid 19th century date, known as Jones Court on historic maps. The evidence consisted of a series of brick wall foundations, that together with the cartographic sources, suggest four cottages built in two pairs of single room width. The cottages were constructed back to back down the length of the property and separated by a small courtyard. Access was via a covered passage running along the east side of the property. The archaeological evidence consisted of several brick wall foundations and a sewer pipe trench along the access passageway. (1)
