Full Description
Although no details of the undercrofts at No 27-29 Watergate Street are known, the above building consisted of a substantial twin gabled timber framed house with a facade of a late 16th century date, the only details now known of the Row level building originate from print evidence. Access to the Row level was by an L shaped flight of steps standing forward on the pavement. The Row had a balustrade but there does not appear to be a stallboard. The first floor level was carried on wooden posts with long casement windows and close studwork around. The gable ends were jettied with coving underneath. Both ridges appear to carry chimneys at their centres. (1)
