Full Description
No 38 Eastgate Street Row is a two storey town house with attic, currently part of a larger store with No 28-38 Eastgate Street, of a mid 19th century date. It is believed to have been designed by T.M. Penson in the early Vernacular Revival style.
The front facade is modern in a 19th century style with windows only, no doorways are present. The central section of the first floor above Row level is slightly jettied to form an oriel window with a six light windows with a false timber frame surround. Similarly, the attic level has a four light central window with false timber framing. The red tile roof is on a north south axis with elaborately carved bargeboards and finial. The interior is almost entirely modern with several decorative features including a segmental barrel vault with dome on the first floor above Row level and wrought iron skylights. (1)
