Full Description
A possible pit or layer of dumped material that pre-dated the construction of the Roman road along Foregate St. was identified during a watching brief carried out between 2009 and 2012 (1). The investigations were carried out during the installation of gas pipelines and involved a large number of trenches across the city. The deposit was in Trench 180 (Context 1244), was over 0.21m deep and contained a single fragment of Samian ware.
