Full Description
Four large pit or quarry-type features were identified during a watching brief along the entire length of the southern side of Delamere St. between 2009 and 2012 (1). The investigations were carried out during the installation of gas pipelines and involved a large number of trenches across the city.
Each pit was only partially exposed, and a small amount of Roman roof tile and pottery was recovered from the associated fills. These pits are part of the Roman period quarry identified over the course of more extensive excavations in this area, and extends its known extent into the roadway (1).
