Full Description
No 24 Watergate Street consists of an undercroft, currently used as a shop, listed as 18th century in date but probably 14th century in origin.
The undercroft is approximately 6m in width and 27m in length with an 18th century extension. The stone walls may be medieval in date but significant modern alterations have been made. The painted stone undercroft contains a modern shop-front. The walls were completely clad however a an opportunity to examine the walls during redevelopment in 1988 suggested they were medieval in origin. Stonework was recorded approximately 10m back from the street frontage on the east side and it was suggested by the surveyor that No 24 and No 22 formed a single undercroft for the front section. (1)
