Summary

Evidence of a probable post medieval cellar was identified at the southern end of St John Street in 2012. Dating evidence from the site was limited although it is believed to be late post medieval in date associated with structures recorded on nineteenth century historic maps.

Full Description

Several features of an unspecified post medieval date were recorded during archaeological investigations along the length of St John Street in 2012 (1). The investigations in Trench 186 of the work identified a structure of probable post medieval date at the southern end of the street. The evidence consisted of a structure [Context 1259] forming the corner of a cellar with a main north-south aligned wall and a second east-west aligned return wall (1). No finds could be linked with this particular structure.
