Full Description
Several features of a post medieval date were recorded during archaeological investigations along the length of St John Street in 2012. The investigations in trench 186 of the work identified a structures of probable post medieval date, the structure [context 1255] consisted of roughly cut sandstone blocks forming a foundation course with traces of a second wall [context 1256] on the same alignment separated by a gap.
Traces of an earlier pit were encountered below the structure containing fragments of animal bone and pottery of a mixed medieval and post medieval date. Dating evidence was not significant from these features and given the limited nature of the trench they can only tentatively be assigned to the post medieval. (1)
