Full Description
Archaeological investigations immediately west of the Eastgate on Eastgate Street identified a substantial sandstone block with a single sherd of 13th-14th century pottery directly underneath. Although the evidence from this trench was limited, it was suggested by the excavator that the block was laid down in the medieval period, perhaps as a rubble make up layer. (1)
