Full Description
Evidence of a probable Roman road surface was encountered during recent archaeological investigations at the junction between Nicholas Street Mews and Watergate Street (west). The evidence consisted of a Roman road surface encountered in trench 103a and 103b [context 1018] and a subsequent layer sealing the road surface.
The road itself was constructed using small to medium sub rounded compacted pebbles. A fragment of lead was recovered from the surface but was not datable. (1)
