Summary

Evidence of a substantial quantity of quarry waste was identified during archaeological investigations in Foregate Street in 1983. The investigations were carried out during re-surfacing works to the street surface itself encountering traces of a former cobbled road surface extending for a distance of some 22m on an east-west alignment and sealed by a later deposit of sandstone quarry waste believed to have been used as a make up level for a later cobbled surface.

Evidence of a substantial quantity of quarry waste was identified during archaeological investigations in Foregate Street in 1983. The investigations were carried out during re-surfacing works to the street surface itself encountering traces of a former cobbled road surface extending for a distance of some 22m on an east-west alignment and sealed by a later deposit of sandstone quarry waste believed to have been used as a make up level for a later cobbled surface.
