Summary

During extensive excavations at the site of the Royal Infirmary in 1992, a brick wall and a deposit of building rubble was identified in the south-east part of the site. These remains sealed a horizon containing a large amount of clay tobacco pipe kiln waste. The wall probably belonged to a late eighteenth century building lying to the south of the trench, one that appears on OS First Edition mapping.

Full Description

During extensive excavations at the site of the Royal Infirmary in 1992, a brick wall and a deposit of building rubble was identified in the south-east part of the site. These remains sealed a horizon containing a large amount of clay tobacco pipe kiln waste. The wall probably belonged to a late eighteenth century building lying to the south of the trench, one that appears on OS First Edition mapping (1).
