Full Description
Traces of post medieval soils were encountered during archaeological investigations to the rear of the Coach and Horses, Northgate Street in 2007.
The evidence consisted of a post medieval soil in trench 1. Trench 2 recorded a wall [202] belonging to a range of former outhouses that were demolished sometime in the 20th century as well as a buried soil [205] containing mixed post medieval, medieval and Roman finds. Area 7, 8 & 9 all recorded traces of extensive back yard activity from the 18th century onwards with a number of brick walls representing outhouses as well as a late 19th to 20th century cobbled yard surface.
