Full Description
Two phases of archaeological investigation carried out on the site of the former Bowling Green between Hunter Street and Princess Street identified evidence of an accumulation of soil directly over the Roman evidence that continued until the post medieval period.
The post medieval soil layer identified in the initial evaluation stage was encountered at a depth of 0.50m below present ground level and directly overlay the Roman remains. (1) Further evidence of this deposit was encountered over a larger area during subsequent investigations in the same year (2)
