Monument record 10432 - St Chad's Lane

The part of modern St Martin's Way that had previously been known as the Crofts (CHER 10428), was later referred to as St Chad's lane or Sant Chadde Layne, in 1574 (1, 3). This is a direct reference to St Chad's Chapel, which is believed to have been to the west of this road, at the corner of it and what is now Bedward Row.
