Full Description
Evidence of two sandstone walls were recorded during archaeological investigations to the east of the City Arms Public house on Union Walk in 1985. The first wall recorded consisted of a number of large sandstone blocks on an east west alignment extending for a length of 4.10m with a second wall of a similar construction to the rear of the plot on a north south alignment extending for a length of 1.98m. No finds were recovered in association with either feature and all that could be concluded was that both walls predated the present City Arms pub itself constructed in only 1922. It was suggested by the excavator that they may have been medieval in origin. (1)
