Full Description
Traces of probable medieval wall foundations were recorded at the former Telephone Exchange on St John Street in 1963. The investigations were carried out during the installation of a cable chamber at the site and monitored by the Grosvenor Museum.
The evidence consists of two east-west aligned wall foundations recorded in stanchion holes 2 and 8 dated by the recovery of medieval sherds from the base of the construction cut and evidence of possible sandstone metalling in stanchion holes 3 and 4 possibly indicating a floor surface. (1)
