Full Description
Archaeological investigations to the rear of the Northgate Brewery Site recorded evidence of post medieval activity. The excavations were carried out by S. Ward & T. Strickland of the Grosvenor Museum following the demolition of the former brewery.
Evidence of stone robbing of the Roman structures was recorded across much of the site, in particular from the main centurion’s house (CHER 8373). Although many of the robber trenches were clearly cut in the medieval plough soil layer some may have been earlier. (1)
