Full Description
Archaeological investigations at Linenhall Street in 1961 identified traces of a possible medieval structure. The investigations were carried out by F.H. Thompson and D.F. Petch primarily with the aim of identifying the Roman defences however a substantial amount of medieval and post medieval features were also identified.
The evidence consisted of a substantial rectangular pit in trench 10 approximately 1.5m by 0.80m and 1.20m deep with near vertical sides. The fill of the pit was largely sterile however a few sherds of 12th century pottery was recovered along with some Roman fragments. (1)
