Summary

Archaeological investigations carried out on the south side of Cuppin Street by S Ward in 1986 recorded extensive evidence of activity from the medieval and post medieval periods. In the post medieval period (phase III) the rear of the property was redeveloped as an industrial site with a complex series of outhouses and pits recorded during the excavations. These included a substantial stone built cess pit dating to the 18th century and evidence of a 17th century brick kiln consisting of a large number of unfired or partially fired bricks recovered in situ from the base of the kiln.
